Popsicle Stick Snowflake

What better way to celebrate winter than by creating your own beautiful snowflake. This simple preschool craft uses only a few basic art supplies and is easy for preschoolers to make on their own.

What You NeedDifficulty level 1 of 5

4 large craft sticks
Blue paint
Paintbrush
Paper Plate
Glitter
Craft Glue
Newspaper

What To Do

Step One:
Lay several sheets of newspaper on your craft table for easy clean up. Fill a paper plate with blue paint and give each preschooler a paintbrush.

Step Two:
Have each preschooler paint their craft sticks with blue paint. Sprinkle glitter on the craft sticks while the paint is still wet. You do not need to add glue. The glitter will stick to the wet paint as it drys. Let the paint dry for several hours.

Empty spice containers with a sprinkle top are a great way for preschoolers to sprinkle glitter on their favorite art projects without using more than they need.

Step Three:
When the paint is dry on the craft sticks, use craft glue to stick them together in the shape of a snowflake. Have preschoolers put a large spot of glue in the center of one of the craft sticks. Place a second craft stick at a 90 degree angle and press it into the first craft stick. Repeat this with the remaining two craft sticks to fill in the gaps on your snowflake.

Preschoolers can take their snowflake home to share with their families or use it to add to the winter decorations in their preschool classroom.

Variations

Snowflake Christmas Tree Ornament:
Cut a two inch piece of ribbon. Fold it over and glue both ends to the back of the popsicle stick snowflake. Allow the glue to dry completely. You have a beautiful snowflake ornament for your preschoolers to give as a gift or enjoy on their own Christmas tree.
