From the Reviewer
The Z Was Zapped is sure to delight preschoolers. Written by Chris Van Allsburg, the author who brought us other classics such as Jumanji and The Polar Express, The Z was Zapped succeeds in meeting high expectations. This dramatic imitation of a stage play introduces preschoolers to all of the letters of the alphabet in an entirely new way. The letters of the alphabet become characters in the play, which turns out to be a very funny tragedy.
This unexpected alphabet book is a valuable addition to any preschool library, whether it be at home or in an educational preschool setting.
Captivating Illustrations
The beautiful grayscale illustrations in The Z Was Zapped correspond nicely with it’s theatrical theme. The illustrations make the reader feel like they are watching an old fashioned stage play. Each illustration contains quite a bit of depth and every one is a work of art.
Valuable Pre-Reading Skills
While some of the illustrations of the letters of the alphabet are mangled beyond recognition, the printed words are very clear for preschoolers. Preschoolers will easily be able to recognize the letters of the alphabet because of the clear print that is used. The Z was Zapped incorporates phonological awareness throughout the story. Preschoolers will become more aware of the sounds that each letter of the alphabet makes.
